Seahawks Add Valpo Transfer To Roster

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW Head Coach C.B. McGrath has added inside bulk to the Seahawk men's basketball roster with the transfer of power forward Marten Linssen from Valparaiso University.

A 6-8, 240-pound native of Dusseldorf, Germany, Linssen played one season at the Missouri Valley Conference school and must sit out next season per NCAA rules. He will be eligible to play in 2019-20.

"Marten is going to get a lot better next season and be ready to make an impact in the 2019-20 season," said McGrath. "We were very impressed with Marten when he visited campus. Everyone that has worked with him over the years has spoken highly of his motor, work ethic and character.

"He's played one season of college basketball, so he comes into the program with experience. We will need an active big body to replace our seniors and I'm impressed with his skill level, size and athleticism. Marten is a team player who is a great student with high character."

Linssen played in 22 games for the Crusaders this past season and averaged 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest. He contributed career-highs of 12 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes of a 77-67 victory over Kent State in the Savannah Invitational. Coincidentally, Linssen also faced UNCW in the round robin even at the Savannah Civic Center.

Linssen was a member of the under-18 German team at the 2016 European Championships and helped Germany finish fourth overall. He also played for Bayer Giants Leverkusen, splitting time between their Pro B league team and youth squad in the NBBL. He was a member of the 2017 NBBL All-Star Team, averaging 12.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
