SERIES INFO
The two teams will meet in preseason for the second straight season after playing an exhibition game in Wilmington one year ago.

The Seahawks last played at High Point on Dec. 18, 2021, a 71-69 overtime win in which UNCW great Jaylen Sims sank the game-winner as part of a then-school-record 12-game win streak.

SEAHAWKS TABBED PRESEASON FAVORITE
UNCW was tabbed as the Coastal Athletic Association preseason favorite, while graduate center Patrick Wessler was named the league's Preseason Player of the Year following a vote of the conference's 13 head coaches.

Wessler, the league's lone returning All-CAA player and top returning scorer (13.6 ppg) and rebounder (9.5 rpg), was joined on the Preseason All-CAA First Team by graduate guard CJ Luster II.

NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS REWIND
Seahawk legends Bill Mayew (1993-97), Brett Blizzard (1999-03), Craig Ponder (2011-16) and Shykeim Phillips (2019-24) assembled on the dais for the first time together at UNCW's second annual Night of Champions stewardship event. The luminaries shared stories and interacted with donors in a special night moderated by famed bracketologist Joe Lunardi, who spent the day around the Seahawk program.

WELCOME BACK
UNCW returns six players from last season's Coastal Athletic Association regular season squad headlined by 2025 All-CAA First Team center Patrick Wessler. Wessler, the league's top returning scorer (13.6), paced the league with 17 double-doubles last season.

Graduate guard CJ Luster II returns to action after missing all of 2025-26 with an injury. A 2025-26 Preseason First Teamer, Luster joined the Seahawks one year ago after an All-CAA season at Stony Brook, where he shot 42.1 percent from three-point range and started all 32 games in 2024-25 for the Seawolves.

Seniors Jahnathan Lamothe and Gavin Walsh are back after missing parts of last season with injury, along with junior Makel Smith and sophomore Matija Prodanovic, to round out the 2026-27 returners.

NEW TO THE NEST
Guards Xavier Brown (South Florida) and Treyvon Maddox (Miami) are part of a six-player transfer class that includes forwards Spencer Elliott (Charlotte) and Tyler Nelson (Navy) along with guards William Kermoury (Northeastern) and Tahlan Pettway (Western Carolina).

Wilmington products Kellum Brown of New Hanover High School and William Seward of John T. Hoggard High School also joined the program as walk-ons.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
High Point went 31-5 last year, including a near-perfect 15-1 conference record, to sweep both the Big South regular season and tournament titles and upset Wisconsin 83-82 in the NCAA First Round.

The Panthers topped the Big South Preseason Poll for the third straight year while Cam'Ron Fletcher was tabbed Preseason Player of the Year.

ON THE DOCKET
UNCW concludes its three-game preseason with a Saturday matinee vs. UNC Greensboro at Noon.
