Errors Costly In 14-3 Loss To Towson

The Tigers scored 10 runs, only two earned, in the first two innings


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Towson took advantage of four UNCW errors in the first two innings to score 10 runs, only two earned, as the Tiger evened the Colonial Athletic Association series on Saturday with a 14-3 win over the Seahawks at Brooks Field.

The Tigers improved to 12-25 overall and 5-6 in the conference while the Seahawks had their brief three-game winning streak halted and fell to 23-15 and 6-5.

Towson's Billy Lennox pounded out four hits to lead the lineup while Logan Burke knocked in three runs on a pair of hits. Colin Gimblet and Richard Miller both had two hits and drove in two runs.

David Marriggi (3-4) gave the Tigers seven strong innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits. He walked three and struck out four.

Ryan Jeffers led UNCW, which trailed 10-0 after two innings, had two hits.

Landen Roupp (0-2) took the loss.

Up next: The series concludes on Sunday at 2 p.m.

How it happened: UNCW committed three errors in the first inning and another in the second as the Tigers raced out to a big lead and were never threatened.

Notes: UNCW committed five errors for the third time this season … Mason Berne singled to extend his consecutive games on base streak to 31 … UNCW managed to use eight pitchers on the game … Luke Gesell hurled three shutout innings of relief for UNCW.
