Lyberty Anderson, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association individual champion, shot a three-over-par 75 to lead UNCW to a third place standing after the opening round of the CAA Women's Golf Championship at The Reserve Club at St. James Plantation on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who are aiming for their fifth league crown, carded a 307 team score in the opening round and are eight strokes behind the College of Charleston, which stands at 11-over-par. Delaware, the defending CAA champion, follows in second place with a 305 team score.

Anderson authored three birdies in her opening round to pace the Seahawks, including a pair of birdies on the front nine, to earn a share of sixth place.

Thao My Nguyen holds a share of eighth place after finishing the first round at four-over-par while junior
Ellinoora Moisio and freshman
Rachael Mast are tied for 14th place at six-over-par.

Kayla Thompson will begin the second round in a tie for 23rd place after closing out Friday's round with an eight-over-par result.

Inside the Scorecards: Nguyen is tied for the tournament lead after carding 14 pars in the first round … Mast was one of three players to finish at even par or better on Par 4 holes … Anderson shot one-under-par on par 3 holes, which is tied for second among the 39-player field … She also tied for fourth with her three birdies … The average score for the tournament field in the first round was 80.49.
