Seahawks, Huskies Collide In Semis

2018 UNCW Tournament Notes | Semifinal Notes Vs. NU | Live Stats | SDN Audio

CHARLESTON, South Carolina –
UNCW continues its quest for an unprecedented third consecutive Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball championship tonight when the No. 6 Seahawks battle No. 2 seeded Northeastern in the semifinals at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Seahawks, 11-20, battle the Huskies, 22-9, at 8:30 p.m. in a game being televised nationally by the CBS Sports Network. Seahawk fans can also hear the game with play-by-play voice Mike Vaccaro on the Seahawk Digital Network or in southeastern North Carolina on "The Ticket" 95.9 FM.

Top-seeded Charleston battles No. 4 William & Mary in the first game at 6 p.m. The Cougars topped Delaware while the Tribe downed Towson in Sunday's quarterfinals.

UNCW advanced to the CAA semifinals for the fourth straight year and is making its 22nd appearance in the semifinals and is looking to become the first team in league history to win three straight crowns.

The Seahawks punched their ticket to the semis after a stirring 93-88 victory late Sunday before 2,566 fans, many with teal clothing and gear. In the end, senior playmaker Jordon Talley exploded for 37 points – tying Marcus Thornton's tournament record – as the Seahawks upset the Pride and moved on.

UNCW and NU squared off twice during the regular season and the Huskies prevailed both times in overtime. The Huskies scored 11 straight points in overtime to win, 81-77, in Wilmington on Jan. 13 and then survived a late charge by the Seahawks in a 107-100 extra session win on Feb. 3 in Boston.

The two clubs are meeting for just the fourth time in the CAA Tournament and third time in four years in the semifinals. UNCW defeated NU in championship runs in 2006 and 2016 and fell in 2015.

The series has been dead even through 24 matchups, but the Seahawks have won six of the last 10 pairings between the two teams.

Spanning back to 2016, the Seahawks have reeled off seven straight wins in the CAA Tournament – tied for second best all-time. The last team to beat UNCW? Northeastern in the semifinals of the 2015 Tournament at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.
