BRONX, N.Y. – Junior
Hannah Adamczyk blasted her second home run of the weekend, but UNCW was unable to overcome a strong offensive effort from Hofstra as the Pride completed a sweep of the Colonial Athletic Association series by claiming a pair of victories over the Seahawks at Fordham's Bahoshy Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride, who upped its record to 17-7 overall and 3-0 in the CAA, defeated the Seahawks (7-17, 0-3) by a 14-1 margin in the opener before posting an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.
Adamczyk, who had not hit a home run this season entering the weekend, scored the Seahawks' lone run in the opener when she hit a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning.
Freshman
Emily Langkamp went 2-for-3 in the twinbill for the Seahawks, collecting both of her hits in the second game.
How It Happened (Game 1): Hofstra scored at least two runs in each of its four trips to the plate, including five-run outbursts in the first and third innings. The Pride slugged four home runs in the contest, including a grand slam from senior Megan Patierno.
How It Happened (Game 2): The Pride surged to a 5-0 lead in the third inning by scoring five runs on three hits, including a grand slam from senior Sarah Edwards. Hofstra added three more runs in the sixth inning to complete the victory.
