WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW earned a split of its doubleheader against Maine and Longwood during the second day of the Seahawk Softball Classic at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who evened their record at 4-4, secured a 4-2 victory over Longwood after dropping a 5-1 decision against Maine in the first game of the day.
Senior shortstop
Kelsey Bryan led the Seahawks against Maine by going 3-for-3 with a run scored while freshman
Emily Langkamp added a RBI single in the victory over Longwood in addition to scoring a run.
Junior
Haley Lenderman earned the victory over the Lancers in the circle, allowing two runs on nine hits in a complete game effort. She tallied five strikeouts with just one walk en route to her first victory of the year.
Senior
Sarah Davis took the loss in the opener after giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out nine Maine hitters.
Key Moment vs. Maine: Maine scored a run in the second and third innings to build a 2-0 lead before UNCW closed the gap with a run in the bottom of the third. The Black Bears, however, added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to clinch the victory.
Key Moment vs. Longwood: UNCW batted around in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring four runs on just two hits to take a 4-1 lead the Seahawks did not relinquish. The Seahawks also took advantage of a Longwood error along with a hit batter and two walks in the frame.
