Powell Leads Seahawks Over Blue Hose

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore forward Paige Powell posted her second double-double of the season to lead three UNCW players in double figures as the Seahawks claimed a 63-48 victory over Presbyterian in non-conference women's basketball action at Trask Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who never trailed in the contest, improved to 2-1 on the young season while handing the Blue Hose their second loss in a row.

Powell scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while blocking a career-high three shots. The Hallsboro, N.C., product made 4-of-8 shots from the floor and was 4-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Redshirt senior guard Shrita Parker added 12 points with five assists and three steals while redshirt junior guard GiGi Smith chipped in 10 markers.

Redshirt junior center Ericka Blackwell-Boyden paced the Blue Hose with a game-high 12 rebounds while freshman Bria Gibbs came off the bench to contribute eight points.

Key Moment: UNCW set the tone early by going on a 15-4 run over the game's first eight minutes. Junior guard Moriah Crisp netted all five of her points during the spurt.

Up Next: The Seahawks complete their quick two-game homestand on Saturday, Nov. 17, with a 1 p.m. contest against Grand Canyon at Trask Coliseum. Fans are asked to wear white as part of Saturday's "White Out" festivities at the game.
