Volleyhawks Prevail In Five Against Pride

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Anna Moss and Madison Peters combined for UNCW's 13th block of the afternoon to cap a 3-1 run in set five as the Seahawks outlasted visiting Hofstra, 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13), on Sunday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Cape Fear academy.

The Seahawks, who have won 10 of their last 11 outings, improved to 10-4 with the win and 3-1 in the CAA. The Pride, meanwhile, saw its four-match winning streak come to an end and fell to 14-6 and 4-2.

UNCW senior Maddy Kline led the Seahawks with 17 kills while Moss added 10. The Seahawks hit .275 for the match as Halle Hunt (8-2-16) and Kendall Bender (7-1-16) both hit .375.

Bender led the Seahawks at the net with eight blocks while Peters, a junior, added seven and Moss, a senior, had four.

Kline finished off a double-double effort with 10 digs.

Kline had four of UNCW's 10 aces on the afternoon on her way to accounting for 22 points.

Hofstra's Aisha Skinner held match-high honors with 19 kills and rounded out a double-double with 16 digs. Maddie Appleton posted a match-high 17 digs as HU held a 58-52 advantage.

In the final set, the teams exchanged the lead five times and forced nine ties. The Seahawks fashioned the largest lead of the set at 12-9, but the Pride fired back with three consecutive points to knot the score at 12-all.

The Seahawks open a two-match roadswing on Oct. 12 at Towson.
