Kline Collects 20 Kills In 5-Set Setback

The Seahawks dropped their first five-set match of the season at Towson


TOWSON, Md. – Senior Maddy Kline held match-high honors with 20 kills and sophomore Brynn Montgomery posted a double-double for UNCW, but Towson prevailed in five sets (19-25, 25-15,26-24, 18-25, 9-15 on Friday at SECU Arena.

The loss, UNCW's first in five sets this season, dropped the Seahawks to 10-5 and 3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks carried a 3-0 mark in five-setters this season into the match.

The Tigers pushed their winning streak to three and their records to 9-11 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Kline was the lone Seahawk to post double-figure kills and finished with a .246 hitting average. She added 11 digs to round out a double-double of her own.

Montgomery finished with 39 assists and 14 digs while senior Katie McCullough totaled a career-high 28 digs.

Kendall Bender and Madison Peters collected six blocks apiece.

Led by Emily Jarome's 17 kills, Towson landed three in double-digit kills. Jocelyn Kuilan and Annie Ertz chipped in 14 and 12, respectively.

Five Tigers posted double-doubles on the night.

The Seahawks visit conference-leader JMU on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start before returning home to face William & Mary, on Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m., in Trask Coliseum.
