HARRISONBURG, Virginia – Sophomore Ginger Deel scored the game-winning goal just over three minutes into overtime as James Madison rallied to claim a 3-2 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at Sentara Park on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed the Dukes to raise their record to 7-7-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the CAA. UNCW, meanwhile, dropped to 8-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the CAA.
Deel earned the win for the Dukes with 6:58 remaining in the first overtime period when she took a pass from redshirt freshman Hannah Coulling and scored her second goal of the contest past senior goalkeeper
Caitie Broderick.
James Madison took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Deel notched her fourth goal of the season off an assist from junior Haley Crawford.
But, the Seahawks answered with two goals in a three-minute span to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. After UNCW earned an own goal with 4:41 remaining in the first half, sophomore
Marissa Vincent tallied her second goal of the season in the 44th minute on a header shot off an assist from sophomore
Audrey Harding.
Crawford evened the score just under three minutes into the second half when she converted a penalty kick for her sixth goal of the season.
Broderick made four saves in the loss for UNCW, which was outshot by a 16-5 margin. Junior Hannah McShea posted one save for James Madison.
