Volleyhawks Collar Huskies In Four Sets

UNCW's Moss posts career-high 15 kills


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior Anna Moss posted 15 kills and four blocks as UNCW trimmed Northeastern, 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18), in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Friday afternoon at Cape Fear Academy.

The Seahawks pushed their record to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the league. The Huskies, who had a modest three-match winning streak snapped, dipped to 10-8 and 3-2.

Moss led the Seahawks with her career-high 15 kills while senior Maddy Kline added 12 kills and eight digs. Junior Madison Peters chipped in nine kills and three blocks.

Junior Kendall Bender helped key the Seahawks at the net with seven blocks and seven kills.

The Seahawks dropped the first set as they struggled to get in rhythm, hitting just .023 in a 25-21 loss. UNCW would rally though in the next three sets, combining to hit .250 the rest of the way.

Northeastern's Athena Ardila, who ranks among the conference leaders in kills, held match-high honors with 20 kills. Setter Samantha Shupe posted a double-double of 36 assists and 10 digs while libero Gabrielle Eyl chalked up a match-high 25 digs.

The Seahawk homestand concludes on Sunday with a noon start against Hofstra. The match will the final of three to be played at Cape Fear Academy.
