PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Redshirt junior
Kirsten Bootes' goal in the 19th minute was enough as UNCW earned a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer victory over Drexel at Vidas Field on Thursday evening.
The win moved the Seahawks' record to 8-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the CAA while Drexel dropped to 4-5-4 overall with a 1-3-0 mark in league play.
Bootes, who notched her fourth goal of the season, gave the Seahawks a one-goal advantage with 26:05 left in the first half. A Drexel defender attempted to clear the ball, but the attempted deflected off junior
Dominique Martinez and went right to Bootes, who slipped a shot to the far post past junior goalkeeper Libby Baeza.
Senior goalkeeper
Caitie Broderick made five saves in earning her second solo shutout of the season as UNCW was outshot by a 20-9 margin.
Baeza tallied two saves for Drexel, which lost for the second time in the last three games.
Up Next: The Seahawks complete a weekend road swing on Sunday, Oct. 7, with a 1 p.m. CAA contest at James Madison.
