Towson Egdes Volleyball In Four Sets


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Towson's Silvia Grassini led three in double-figure kills with 13 as the Tigers knocked off homestanding UNCW, 3-1 (25-23-25-23, 25-27, 25-19) on Monday in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action at Hanover Hall.

The Tigers picked up a sweep of the season series between the two programs and ran its record to 12-14 overall and 6-6 in the CAA. The Seahawks saw their brief two-match winning streak halted and dipped to 13-9 and 6-6. The Tigers moved past the Seahawks into fifth in the conference standings.

Joining Grassini in double-digits were Olivia Finckel and Annie Ertz with 12 and 10, respectively. Both teams struggled on the night offensively, but Towson narrowly out-hit UNCW, .137-.131.

UNCW's Maddy Kline finished with a match-high 16 kills and completed her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs. Adding a double-double was Brynn Montgomery with 35 assists and 11 digs. It was her nine.

Towson's Marissa Wonder doled out 21 assists and recorded 16 digs while teammate Anna Holehouse posted a match-high 19 digs.

The teams combined for 29 blocks on the evening with UNCW posting a 15-14 advantage. Grassini led all players with nine while UNCW was led by Anna Moss with seven and Kendall Bender with six.

The Seahawks, who will play three of the final four matches of the regular season on the road, next visit Hofstra (Nov. 3) and Northeastern (Nov. 5).
