Volleyhawks Clip Blue Hens In Five


WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW knocked off Delaware in a five-set thriller (25-16, 21-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-11) as Maddy Kline posted a double-double and Katie McCullough had her second 30-plus dig match of the season on Friday at Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks (12-8, 5-5 CAA) moved into a tie for fifth with Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association standings. The Blue Hens, meanwhile, fell to 9-14 and 3-8 in the league.

Kline finished with a team-high 14 kills and added 17 digs while McCullough collected 36 digs. McCullough set a program record with 38 digs last week at Elon. Her 36 digs were the third highest total in the program's history.

The Seahawks also posted a season-high 17 blocks as Kendall Bender had nine and Anna Moss chipped in seven.

Delaware's Maria Bellinger held match-high honors with 22 kills, but the Seahawks limited UD to a .070 hitting average. Cailey Bracken and Courtnie Robertson led five Blue Hens in double-digit digs with 19 apiece. Roberts completed a double-double evening with 35 assists.

UNCW setter Brynn Montgomery also fashioned a double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs.

The Seahawks host James Madison on Oct. 27 in an 8 p.m. start at Hanover Hall.
