Seahawks Battle Delaware to 2-2 Tie

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Juniors Wilhelm Nilsson and Phillip Goodrum each scored a goal as No. 11 UNCW earned a 2-2 draw against Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.

The tie extended the Seahawks' unbeaten streak to five straight games while moving their record to 11-2-2. Delaware, meanwhile, upped its record to 4-9-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the CAA while securing a berth in the conference tournament.

Nilsson gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute by scoring his first goal of the season after a free kick was deflected to him by a Delaware defender.

Just under nine minutes later, Goodrum expanded the advantage to 2-0 when he knocked in a rebound of a shot by senior Ben Fisher for his 10th goal of the season.

But, Delaware answered with 10:18 remaining in the first half to narrow the deficit to 2-1 when junior Fede Prieto scored his second goal of the year off an assist from junior Robert Campbell.

The Blue Hens evened the score at 2-2 in the 58th minute when senior John Schroeder tapped in a crossing pass from freshman Jake Steinberg.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Ryan Cretens made two saves for the Seahawks while senior Todd Morton tallied four saves for Delaware.

UNCW outshot the Blue Hens, 16-10, and had a commanding 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Up Next: The Seahawks play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 24, with a 7 p.m. clash against Coastal Carolina.
