Volleyhawks Fall To Cougars



WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Maddy Kline had a UNCW-high 12 kills and added 12 digs, but UNCW dropped a 3-1 decision (20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 18-25) to Colonial Athletic Association preseason favorite College of Charleston on Wednesday in Hanover Hall.

UNCW saw its losing streak extended to three, all in CAA play, while slipping to 6-9 overall and 0-3 in the league. The Cougars, who snapped a three-match losing skid to the Seahawks, ran their record to 13-4 and 2-1.

Kennedy Madison paced the CofC offense with 17 kills in 22 attacks and finished with a .727 hitting average. Joining her in double-figure kills were Rachel Devon with 16 and Krissy Mummy and Lauren Freed with 14 and 11, respectively. The Cougars posted a .244 hitting average for the match.

Setter Allison Beckman was the beneficiary of the strong hitting night, finishing with 49 assists. She rounded out a double-double with 15 digs.

Kline was one of three Seahawks to 10-plus kills. Halle Hunt had 11 and Anna Moss added 10.

At the net, UNCW continued its strong play, finishing with a 10-8 advantage in blocks. Sydney Brock held match-high honors with five blocks along with six kills.

CofC's McKala Rhodes recorded a match-best 27 digs.

The Seahawks visit reigning conference champion James Madison on Friday for a 7 p.m. start which can be seen on the Seahawk Digital Network.
