UNCW Falls At Hofstra, 3-1, In Volleyball

HEMPSTEAD, New York – Led by Laura Masciullo's 17 kills and three other players in double digit, Hofstra knocked off visiting UNCW, 3-1 (25-16, 25-10, 24-26, 25-19) in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Sunday.

The Pride evened its record at 1-1 in the CAA and improved to 9-7 overall. The Seahawks, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 with the loss and 6-8 overall.

"Obviously we are disappointed with the slow start in sets one and two, but we showed more fight and passion in the last two sets," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Hofstra played their very best today and we had a hard time defending them."

Masciullo led an impressive Hofstra offense that finished with a .413 hitting average on the strength of 61 kills. Joining her in double-figure kills were Ivania Ortiz with 13 and Michela Rucli and Emma Price with 11 apiece.

Maddy Kline paced UNCW with 12 kills while Anna Moss, Madison Peters and Sydney Brock chipped in eight kills each.

Hofstra did not commit a hitting error in the first two sets of the match.

Michaela White posted a double-double of 27 assists and 13 digs for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks host CAA preseason favorite College of Charleston on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. in Hanover Hall.
