Seahawks Take Tourney Finale From Wildcats, 3-1



WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Halle Hunt's double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs helped lead UNCW past Davidson, 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22) in the final match of the Springhill Suites Mayfaire Invitational on Sunday at Hanover Hall.

The win raised UNCW's mark to 2-1 while the Wildcats took their first loss of the season to dip to 2-1. Appalachian State won the tournament by tiebreaker after also posting a 2-1 record.

Hunt, who earned All-Tournament honors, was joined by teammates Maddy Kline and Michaela White with double-double efforts. Kline finished with 10 kills and 13 digs while White held match-high honors with 27 assists and added 13 digs. Kati8e McCullough held match-high honors with a career-high 26 digs.

Davidson's Mason Rooney, who also earned All-Tournament honors, fashioned a triple-double of 20 kills, 23 assists and 14 digs. Sydney Champaigne totaled 24 assists and Elise Edman paced the Wildcats with 19 digs.

UNCW used three aces by Hunt to record 10 services while DC managed three.

At the net, UNCW held a 6-1 advantage in blocks.

The Seahawks return to action at the Duke Invitational on Sept. 1, when they face the host Blue Devils at 10 a.m. UNCW will also take on South Carolina at 5 p.m. that day.
