Volleyhawks Sail Past Loyola In Season Opener

 
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Maddy Kline had 11 kills and freshman Brynn Montgomery added 29 assists and 13 digs as UNCW rolled past Loyola Maryland, 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-19), in the season opening volleyball match for both teams on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

Kline, who is UNCW's top returning hitter from last season, finished with a .385 hitting average, committing just one hitting error in 26 attacks. Junior Halle Hunt added nine kills while sophomore Madison Peters chipped in eight.

Montgomery posted a double-double in her collegiate debut and held game-high honors in both assists and digs.

The Seahawks ran out to a quick lead after hitting .364 in the first set, a 25-13 win.

Ann Ernst and Haley Puddy paced the Greyhounds with 10 kills apiece while Molly Werts fashioned a double-double of 14 assists and a team-high 12 digs.

The Seahawks close out the day with a 7:30 p.m. start against Appalachian State.
