Volleyball Falls To Mountaineers, 3-1

 
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman Brynn Montgomery doled out 25 assists and added 30 digs but UNCW was unable to overcome three Mountaineers in double-digit kills as Appalachian State topped the Seahawks 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 12-25, 25-23) Saturday evening in Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks saw their record dip to 1- with the loss while ASU picked up its first win of the season to improve to 1-2.

Heading up ASU's offense were Melissa McMath and Emma Longley with 18 and 17 kills, respectively. Rounding out the double-digit performers was Kara Spicer with 11. ASU closed out the match hitting .326 with 19 kills in 46 attacks.

Montgomery narrowly missed a triple-double, finishing with eight kills in 21 attacks for a .381 average. Madison Peters was the lone Seahawk in double-digit kills, finishing with a career-high13. Michaela White added 20 assists and 17 digs while Katie McCullough finished with 19 digs.

ASU's Olivia Loeffler hld match-high honors with 33 digs as the Mountaineers finished with a 96-91 advantage in digs.

The Seahawks close out the Springhill Suites Mayfaire Invitational on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start against Davidson.
