Seahawks Split Twinbill With Siena And Hampton

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior infielder Lauren Moore posted four hits and scored a run as UNCW split a pair of games against Siena and Hampton at the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Softball Invitational at Boseman Field on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who upped their record to 11-5-1 on the season, dropped a 4-1 decision against Siena before posting a 5-4 victory in the nightcap against Hampton.

Moore, who has hit safely in seven straight games, matched her career high with a three-hit effort against Siena before going 1-for-2 with a run scored in the victory over Hampton.
Senior outfielder Merritt Wilkinson collected two hits and scored three runs for the Seahawks while sophomores Lacey Fox, Hannah Adamczyk and Kali Jones also contributed two hits apiece in the twinbill.

Senior Peyton Jordan improved to 5-2 on the season in the victory over Hampton after scattering five hits over seven innings. She allowed two runs, but recorded six strikeouts.

How It Happened vs. Siena: The Saints surged to a 3-0 advantage in the first three innings, scoring twice in the first frame before adding an insurance run in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by freshman Patricia Kalesse. UNCW narrowed the margin to 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning before Siena went ahead by a 4-1 count with a run in the fifth frame.

How It Happened vs. Hampton: UNCW broke a 2-all tie in the bottom of the fifth inning on a three-run triple by Fox to center field. The Pirates narrowed the margin to 5-4 by scoring twice off freshman Rylee Pate before Jordan re-entered the game to secure the victory.

Coach Kristy Norton Says: "In order for hitters to do their job, they needed to take the bat off their shoulder. Hats off to Siena's pitcher who kept us off balance all game. We struck the ball well in game two but still need to do a better job of pushing runs across throughout the game."
