Volleyhawks Unable To Stave Off Tigers In Five-Set Loss

TOWSON, Maryland – UNCW was unable to hold off Towson over the final three sets as the Tigers erased a 2-0 deficit with three straight wins to upend the upset-minded Seahawks, 3-2 (23-25, 14-25, 25-19, 26-24, 15-11) on Saturday at SECU Arena.

The Tigers ran their record to 24-4 overall and remained in third place in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 10-4 mark. The Seahawks dropped to 9-17 with the road loss and 3-11 in the league. UNCW sits in seventh place behind Elon for the final CAA tournament berth.

"An unfortunate ending to a great match on both sides of the net," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We had multiple hitters contribute, but we had a hard time slowing down Towson's hitters after the second set."

Towson landed five players in double-digit kills, led by Jocelyn Kuilan's 18. She rounded out a double-double effort with 13 digs. The Tigers also had four players with double-figure digs. Anna Holehouse led TU with a match-high 24 while teammate Marrisa Wonders chipped in 20.

UNCW finished with a .249 hitting average as three players his .240 or better. Junior Maddy Kline had 17 kills while adding seven digs and six blocks.

Junior Halle Hunt finished with a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs.

Senior Sydney Brockhad nine kills and five blocks.

UNCW finished with 14 blocks, including nine from sophomore Kendall Bender.

The Seahawks return to Hanover where they'll conclude their regular season with matches against William & Mary (Nov. 10) and Elon (Nov. 12).
