Volleyball Stays In CAA Tournament Berth Race With Sweep Of Tribe

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW hit a season-high .294 in a sweep of William & Mary at Hanover Hall on Friday to stay alive in the race for the final berth in next week's Colonial Athletic Association tournament in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Seahawks improved to 4-11 in the league, 10-17 overall, to move to within a game of sixth-place Elon, who fell in three at Charleston on Thursday. The Tribe, meanwhile, dropped to 5-24 and 2-13 in the CAA.

Leading the hitting attack were sophomores Madison Peters and Kendall Bender and senior Sydney brock, all with eight kills apiece. Maddy Kline chipped in seven kills of her own to round out a balanced night offensively for UNCW.

In the third set, the Seahawks trailed 17-11 before rattling off a 9-0 run behind the serving of junior Halle Hunt to take a 20-17 lead. Hunt finished with a career-high five aces.

Defensively, junior Katie McCullough held match-high honors with 11 digs and Kline and Bender finished with four blocks apiece. The Seahawks out blocked the Tribe, 7-1.

Sydney Biniak and Heather Pippus each had eight kills for the Tribe, which was limited to a .109 hitting average.

The Seahawks close out their regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start against Elon.
