Seahawks Resume Winning Ways With 3-1 Victory

CONWAY, South Carolina – No. 16 UNCW used a pair of goals in the first half to build an early lead as the Seahawks earned their fifth win in the last six games with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Coastal Carolina at CCU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The victory allowed the Seahawks to elevate their record to 8-2-0 on the season while the Chanticleers fall to 4-6-0.

Freshman Emil Elveroth opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he converted a pass from junior Ben Fisher for his third goal of the season.

With 9:26 remaining in the opening stanza, the Seahawks upped the advantage to 2-0 when senior Kalvin Kromer converted a penalty kick attempt for his first goal of the season.

The Chanticleers trimmed the deficit to 2-1 just over six minutes into the second half when junior Yazeed Matthews scored on a penalty kick attempt past redshirt junior goalkeeper Ryan Cretens.

But, UNCW reclaimed a two-goal edge with 8:16 left as junior David Lozano scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick.

Cretens matched his season high by making five saves in the win for UNCW, which was outshot by a 15-8 margin.

Senior goalkeeper Braulio Linares-Ortiz recorded four saves in a losing effort for the Chanticleers.
