WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior midfielder
David Lozano recorded the first multi-goal game of his college career by scoring twice as No. 16 UNCW remained undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association play after a 3-0 victory over Drexel at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.
The win elevated the Seahawks' record to 9-2-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the CAA while Drexel dropped to 2-7-1 overall with a 1-2-1 mark against league opponents.
UNCW used two goals in a two-minute span early in the first half to build a 2-0 advantage. Freshman forward
Emil Elveroth headed in his fourth goal of the season in the 12th minute off an assist from junior midfielder
Ben Fisher before Lozano added his first goal of the game on a header after passes from senior midfielder
Kalvin Kromer and sophomore midfielder
Phillip Goodrum.
Lozano added an unassisted goal with 2:32 remaining in the game to increase the margin to 3-0.
Redshirt junior
Ryan Cretens stopped the only shot he faced against Drexel to post his fifth shutout of the season as UNCW outshot the Dragons by a commanding 17-1 margin.
Senior goalkeeper Jacob Jordan made six saves in the loss for the Dragons, who have lost three of their last four contests.
Game Notes:
- UNCW improved its home record to 4-1-0 this season and has outscored its opponents by an 8-2 margin in those contests.
- The Seahawks scored three goals for the second straight game, matching a season high.
- UNCW is now 7-0-0 this season when scoring two or more goals in a contest and has won 30 consecutive games when recording two or more goals.
- Lozano, who has scored three goals in his last two games, is the third UNCW player to record a multi-goal effort this season. Redshirt senior Julio Moncada had two goals against Jacksonville in the season opener before Goodrum netted two goals at William & Mary on Sept. 23.
- Cretens recorded the 11th shutout of his college career, moving into a tie for fifth place on the Seahawks' all-time list with Sean Melvin (2013-15) and Adrian Powell (1995-98).
- UNCW has now won four straight games against the Dragons and has a 12-4-0 lead in the all-time series. During the Seahawks' current win streak over Drexel, they have outscored the Dragons by a 10-1 margin with three shutouts.
