Seahawks Edge Northeastern to Secure No. 2 Seed in CAA Tourney

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Phillip Goodrum scored the game's only goal in the 73rd minute to lift UNCW past Northeastern for a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory in the regular season finale at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.

The win, which ended a four-game losing streak, elevated the Seahawks' record to 10-6-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the CAA. UNCW also secures the No. 2 seed for the CAA Championship as James Madison edged Drexel, 1-0, to claim the outright regular season title.

Goodrum, who netted his seventh goal of the season, gave UNCW its one-goal advantage with 17:01 remaining when he gathered a loose ball in the penalty area and fired a shot into the lower left corner from 18 yards.

Led by redshirt junior goalkeeper Ryan Cretens, the Seahawks allowed just two shots by the Huskies as UNCW earned its sixth shutout of the season.

Northeastern goalkeeper Jonathan Thuresson made two saves for the Huskies, who finished their season with a 3-12-3 overall record and a 1-6-1 mark in league play.

Up Next: The Seahawks earned a bye into the CAA semifinals in Harrisonburg on Friday, Nov. 10, and will face the winner of the Charleston-Elon quarterfinal.
