Brock Sets Career-High In Kills In 5-Set Loss To Hofstra


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Sydney Brock led four Seahawks in double-digit kills with 15, but Hofstra rallied to win the final two sets and upend UNCW, 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 17-25, 25-23, 15-10), in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Sunday at Hanover Hall.

The Pride (14-10, 6-4 CAA) halted a three-match losing skid with the five-set win. The Seahawks (8-15, 2-9 CAA) dropped to 7-5 at home with their second consecutive loss.

Brock's 15 kills were a career-high and she finished with five blocks. Joining her in double-digit kills were Kendall Bender with a career-high 14 kills and five blocks. For Bender, it was her third straight match with a new career-high in kills.

Rounding out UNCW's quartet in double-digit kills were sophomore Madison Peters and junior Halle Hunt with 12 and 11, respectively. Hunt tied her career-high with four aces.

  Sanne Maring of Hofstra also set a career-high with a match-high 17 kills. She finished with a .538 hitting average (17-3-26). Laura Masciullo and Michela Rucli added 14 kills apiece.

HU's Luisa Sydlik held match-high honors with 51 assists while UNCW freshman Brynn Montgomery had 48.

Defensively, Sydlik fashioned a double-double with a match-best 17 digs.

The Seahawks next visit rival College of Charleston on Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. start.
