Dukes Edge Seahawks In CAA Volleyball


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – In a match that saw the score tied 32 times and 16 lead changes, James Madison posted a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-22) win over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

The Dukes, who swept the season series, upped their record to 15-3 overall and 6-3 in the CAA. The Seahawks, who were coming off a sweep of conference-leading Northeastern, saw their record drop to 8-14 and 2-8.

JMU hit .257 on the match thanks to a trio of hitters with double-figure kills. Bryn Recker led the Dukes with 14 kills while M'Kaela White and Kelly Vahos added 12 apiece. White finished the match with a .706 hitting average (12-0-17).

  Recker rounded out a double-double with 10 digs.

Sophomore Kendall Bender continued her strong play, finishing with a team-high 12 kills in 22 attacks (.409) and senior middle Sydney Brock had 10 kills and a .500 hitting average. Bender added a team-best four blocks.

JMU's Austin Taylor led all players with 16 digs while junior Katie McCullough paced the Seahawks with 16.

The Seahawks close out their home stretch with a 12:30 p.m. start on Sunday against Hofstra.
