Seahawks Upended By Hofstra In Overtime, 2-1

HEMPSTEAD, New York – Luke Brown's goal 3:42 into the first overtime lifted Hofstra to a 2-1 win over UNCW in a key Colonial Athletic Association game on Saturday evening at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The Pride improved to 4-5-6 overall and 3-1-4 in the CAA. UNCW, which has dropped its last four outings, slipped to 9-6 and 4-3 in the league. Despite the loss, UNCW was able to clinch a conference tournament berth.

Brown settled a cross from the right side before slotting home the game-winner from seven yards out.

The Pride forced overtime in the 80th minute on a strike from Mani Walcott, his first of the season, who converted a rebound off a shot from Brown.

UNCW opened the scoring in the 61st minute when Phillips Goodrum scored his sixth goal of the season, coming off a rebound from a Julio Moncada shot.

Entering the final weekend of the conference season, the Seahawks are in fourth place, tied with Charleston, who owns the tiebreaker, with 12 points. James Madison leads the CAA with 14 points and Hofstra, which has completed its league season, is second with 13. William & Mary is fifth with 11 points and Elon sits in sixth with nine points, one point ahead of Delaware for the final tournament berth.

The Seahawks close out the regular season with a 7 p.m. start on Oct. 28 against visiting Northeastern.
