Men's Soccer Preview: at Coastal Carolina


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team hopes to rebound from its first loss in nearly a month when the Seahawks visit Coastal Carolina for a non-conference game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The Seahawks, who carry a 7-2-0 record into Tuesday's game, had a four-game win streak snapped on Saturday night with a tough 1-0 setback in double overtime against VCU. Coastal Carolina, meanwhile, brings a 4-5-0 mark into Tuesday's affair following a 2-0 victory at South Carolina on Saturday.     

Five Things to Know
  1. UNCW closed out the month of September with a 5-2-0 record while outscoring the opposition, 9-5, in those seven games. The Seahawks are now 21-5-2 in the month of September over the last four seasons.
  2. The Seahawks and the Chanticleers will meet for the 19th time in a series Coastal Carolina leads by a slim 9-8-1 margin. However, the teams have not met since Sept. 28, 2010, a 1-0 victory by the Chanticleers.
  3. UNCW sophomore forward Phillip Goodrum enters this week's action as the CAA leader with 11 points. The Charlotte, N.C., product has tallied five goals with an assist.
  4. Coastal Carolina has used a balanced offense this season with nine different players scoring a goal. Frantzdy Pierrot leads the team with three goals while contributing an assist.
  5. The Seahawks are No. 25 in this week's NCAA Division I Men's Soccer RPI report.
