The Seahawks, who posted a 1-0-1 record in their two exhibition tilts, are coming off a scoreless draw at No. 5 Wake Forest on Saturday evening. Redshirt sophomore
Ryan Cretens and freshman
Jacob Braham combined to make six saves as UNCW posted a second consecutive shutout.
Campbell, which dropped a 1-0 decision against Elon in its lone exhibition, returns 17 letter winners from last year's team that posted a 10-9-0 record, including a 5-4-0 mark in the Big South Conference. The Camels, under the direction of second year Coach
Dustin Fonder, were picked to finish fourth in the Big South standings in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Friday night's contest will mark the 51st all-time meeting between the Seahawks and the Camels. Campbell holds a 26-22-2 advantage in the series, but has not defeated the Seahawks since the 2012 season. UNCW posted a 6-2 victory in last year's clash in Wilmington.
Following Friday's season opener, the Seahawks continue their season-opening road trip with a visit to UMBC next Friday night. It will be the first meeting against the Retrievers since 1979, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
