WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore catcher
Ashley Best blasted a solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning as UNCW edged Delaware, 4-3, in the first game of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader against Delaware at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hens, who improved to 23-13 overall and 5-3 in the CAA, defeated the Seahawks by a 10-0 margin in five innings in the nightcap to earn a split of the doubleheader. UNCW upped its record to 22-16, including a 2-5 mark in league play.
Sophomore
Sarah Davis paced the Seahawks' nine-hit attack by going 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Seven other players each tallied a hit in the doubleheader.

Junior
Peyton Jordan earned the win in the circle in the opener after throwing 5.0 scoreless innings of relief. She scattered three hits and recorded a strikeout while upping her record to 12-5.
Senior
Kiersten Coleman earned both decisions in the circle for Delaware. After suffering the loss in the opener, she posted a complete game shutout by allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Â
How It Happened – Game 1: Best's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed UNCW to overcome a 3-0 deficit as the Seahawks scored four times in the final three innings.
