Late Rally Propels Delaware Past UNCW, 5-1

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by sophomore Mariah Kondravy, Delaware scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 5-1 victory over UNCW in the finale of a Colonial Athletic Association series at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Hens, who earned their 9th win in the last 10 games, improved to 24-13 overall and 6-3 in the CAA. Meanwhile, UNCW dropped to 22-17 on the season, including a 2-6 mark in conference action.

Kondravy paced the Blue Hens' eight-hit attack by going 2-for-3 with four runs batted in. Sophomore Mattie Nuccio also contributed a pair of hits while scoring a run.
 Senior Kiersten Coleman upped her record to 15-5 in the circle after throwing 2.0 innings of scoreless relief while not allowing a hit.

Freshman Haley Lenderman suffered the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits. She recorded four strikeouts while throwing her second complete game of the season.    

How It Happened: Delaware broke a 1-1 tie by scoring four times in the top of the seventh inning. Kondravy blasted a three-run double to left field for a 4-1 advantage before an RBI groundout by freshman Anna Steinmetz upped the lead to 5-1.  

Inside the Box Score: The teams combined to record 25 ground ball outs … Delaware was 7-for-15 in advancement opportunities while UNCW was 6-for-15 in those situations … UNCW had its leadoff hitter reach base in four of seven innings … Four different UNCW players recorded a hit.

#SeahawkStats: Junior Merritt Wilkinson has hit safely in seven of her last eight games after recording a double on Sunday … She also accounted for the Seahawks' lone run against the Blue Hens … UNCW was held to one run or less for the 10th time this year … The Seahawks are now 15-2 this year when scoring first … With six games remaining at home this season, UNCW has a 19-13 mark at Boseman Field.

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW remains at Boseman Field to face College of Charleston in a three-game CAA series next weekend. The Seahawks and the Cougars will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 16, before a single game on Sunday, Apr. 17.
