PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – UNCW used four home runs, including two from freshman
Rachel Willis, to sweep a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader over Drexel at Drexel Softball Field on Saturday afternoon.
After rallying to earn a 5-2 victory in eight innings in the opener, the Seahawks completed the sweep with a 7-2 triumph in the second game.
The Seahawks, who extended their win streak to four consecutive games, upped their record to 29-19 overall and 8-8 in the CAA. Drexel, meanwhile, dropped to 19-31 on the season with a 0-16 mark in league play.
Willis, who hit the first two home runs of her college career, went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader with three runs scored and two runs batted in.
Sophomore
Sarah Davis and junior
Lauren Moore also contributed a home run in the doubleheader. Davis blasted her fifth home run of the year in the first game with a three-run shot in the eighth inning while Moore hit her first home run of the season in the nightcap.
Junior
Peyton Jordan earned the win in the circle in the first game after allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Jordan, who improved to 14-6, posted her sixth complete game of the season.
Freshman
Haley Lenderman upped her record to 6-4 in the nightcap after allowing one earned run on five hits over six innings. She also recorded a pair of strikeouts with a walk.
How It Happened – Game 1: Davis hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give UNCW a 5-2 lead over Drexel. The home run completed the comeback for the Seahawks, who tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the seventh inning.
How It Happened – Game 2: The Seahawks scored seven runs over the final three innings to earn the win, including four runs in the top of the seventh inning on a pair of home runs from Willis and Moore.  Â
Inside the Box Scores: UNCW was 21-for-38 in advancement opportunities in the doubleheader, including a 12-for-22 effort in the second game … Jordan induced 13 fly ball outs against Drexel in the opener while Lenderman forced the Dragons into 14 ground ball outs in the nightcap … The Seahawks hit .322 in the doubleheader and scored 12 runs on 19 hits … Drexel was limited to a .164 batting average … The Dragons was 8-for-17 in advancement chances in the second game.
