WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Peyton Jordan tossed her third shutout of the season while scattering just six hits as UNCW earned a split of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader against Elon at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who improved to 26-19 overall and 5-8 in the CAA, overcame a 3-2 loss in the opener by blanking Elon, 2-0, in the nightcap. The Phoenix now hold a 25-20 overall record with an 8-6 mark in league play.

Jordan, who upped her record to 13-6 on the season, posted her fifth complete game of the season after striking out a season-high eight batters against just one walk.
  Sophomore Kelsey Bryan paced the Seahawks' 12-hit attack by going 4-for-4 in the first game while sophomore Ashley Best collected three hits, including a 2-for-3 effort in the second game.    

Junior infielder Emily Roper led Elon by going 4-for-6 in the doubleheader while senior Kayla Caruso earned the win in the circle in the first game after allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of work.

How It Happened – Game 1: Elon broke a 2-all tie in the top of the sixth inning as Alaina Hall's infield single to shortstop drove in the game-winning run. UNCW had taken a 2-0 lead in the opening frame before the Phoenix answered with two runs in the second inning.   

How It Happened – Game 2: The Seahawks used back-to-back RBI singles by Best and freshman Rachel Willis to produce the lone runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.  

Inside the Box Scores: UNCW had its lead-off hitter reach base five times in the doubleheader, including a 3-for-7 rate in the opener … Elon was a combined 5-for-29 with runners on base in the doubleheader … UNCW freshman pitcher Haley Lenderman recorded 15 of 18 outs via a ground ball in the first game … The Seahawks were 7-for-13 in advancement opportunities in the first game, but just 4-for-13 in the nightcap … Elon outhit the Seahawks, 6-5, in the nightcap, marking just the third time this year the Phoenix has lost when outhitting an opponent.

#SeahawkStats: Bryan became the third UNCW player to record a four-hit game this season, joining freshman Hannah Adamczyk (Apr. 20 at East Carolina) and Willis (Mar. 18 vs. Columbia) … Best also extended her streak of reaching base safely to 11 consecutive games while upping her hitting streak to four games in a row … UNCW improved to 22-15 at Boseman Field this year heading into Sunday's home finale … Jordan became the first UNCW hurler to record 13 or more wins in a season since Jennifer Bosley notched 17 victories in 2006 … She also moved to a tie for fifth place on the Seahawks' all-time list with her 28th career win … The Seahawks have split their last five doubleheaders, dating back to Mar. 29 at Campbell … The Seahawks are now 10-6 in one-run games … They also earned their sixth shutout win of the year.

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW closes out its home schedule on Sunday afternoon with the series finale against Elon at 1 p.m. The Seahawks will honor their four seniors – Erin Brown, Brittanne Gasser, Taylor Matkins and Darian Roberts – in a pre-game ceremony.
