Davis' Double Gives Seahawks Split Against CofC

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Sarah Davis drove in the game-winning run with a two-run double in the seventh inning of the second game as UNCW earned a split of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader against College of Charleston at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who boosted their record to 23-18 overall and 3-7 in the CAA, overcame a 6-2 loss in the opener to claim a 2-1 triumph over the Cougars in the nightcap. College of Charleston, which snapped a five-game losing streak with the first game victory, improved to 24-19 on the season with a 4-7 mark in league play.

Sophomore Kelsey Bryan and freshman Hannah Adamczyk each posted two hits to pace the Seahawks in the doubleheader while Davis and freshman Anna Hessenthaler each contributed a double.
 Davis also earned the win in the circle in the nightcap after allowing one run in 2.0 innings of relief, improving her record to 6-7 on the season.

The Cougars used a 4-for-7 performance from Rebecca Mueller to spearhead their 14-hit attack. Mueller also scored three runs in the doubleheader.   

How It Happened – Game 1: College of Charleston scored three runs in the third and fourth innings to build a 6-0 lead the Cougars never relinquished. Sophomore outfielder Jordin Jones hit a three-run home run in the third frame before the Cougars added three more runs in the next inning.  

How It Happened – Game 2: The Seahawks overcame a 1-0 deficit to earn the win as Davis drove in two runs with a double to right center with no outs in the seventh inning. She also earned the win in the circle after entering the game in the sixth inning in place of freshman Haley Lenderman, who threw 5.0 scoreless innings.

Inside the Box Scores: College of Charleston was 15-for-23 in advancement opportunities in the first game while UNCW was successful in 9 of 17 advancement chances … Each team had its lead-off hitter reach base four times in the first game … The teams were a combined 6-for-33 with runners on base in the opener … College of Charleston forced the Seahawks into 12 fly ball outs in the nightcap while UNCW induced 13 ground ball outs by the Cougars … The teams combined to hit 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the second game.

#SeahawkStats: UNCW has split its last four doubleheaders since Mar. 29 against Campbell … Davis earned her first win in the circle since Mar. 16 against Bryant … The Seahawks are now 8-5 in one-run games this season … The victory in the nightcap marked UNCW's first win when trailing after six innings this year … UNCW improved to 11-1 when holding an opponent to one run or less this season … Sophomore Ashley Best has reached base in seven straight games … Davis posted her team-leading fifth multi-RBI game this year.
