WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Stellar pitching from Ryan Foster and two-hit games from Steven Linkous, Gavin Stupienski and Nick Feight powered UNCW to a 5-1 win over visiting Penn State in the first of a three-game series on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks ran their record to 7-1 over and remained perfect at home at 7-0. Penn State, meanwhile, dipped to 2-6 with the loss. It was their fourth consecutive setback.

Foster (3-0) picked up his third win in as many starts while limiting PSU to an unearned run on a hit and three walks over a season-long 7.2 innings.

PSU starter Taylor Lehman posted a career-high 11 strikeouts, but was saddled with the loss. The sophomore lefthander allowed four runs on six hits and a pair of walks.

Linkous finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and he stole two more bases, giving him 10 on the young season. Stupienski added two singles and drove in a run while Feight belted his third homer of the season in the second inning and later added a double in the eighth.

Jim Haley and James Coates had the only two hits for the Nittany Lions.

Up next: The series continues on Sunday with another 2 p.m. start and concludes on Monday with first-pitch set for 4 p.m.

Home Runs: UNCW Feight (third inning off Lehman, solo, two outs)

How it happened: Tied at 1-all in the third inning, Linkous opened the inning with a double to left and scored two batters later on a Stupienski ground ball to the right side. Feight followed Stupienski with a homer to right center for a 3-1 UNCW lead.

Inside the box score: Both teams struggled at the plate as pitching dominated the day … UNCW was 2-for-10 with RISP while PSU was hitless (0-8) … Both teams landed leadoff hitters on base safely three times … Terence Connelly had two of UNCW's three 2-out RBI's … UNCW pitchers held PSU hitless with two outs (0-10).

Notes: Stupienski extended his career-long hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the first inning … UNCW improved to 4-0 versus lefthanded starters this season … UNCW improved to 2-1 against Penn State all-time … Nick Feight has six extra base hits, including three homers, among his nine hits this season … With two more strikeouts, Jared Gesell pushed his season total to 10 in six innings.
