Feight Takes Flight With Home Run In 11-2 Win



WILMINGTON, North CarolinaNick Feight homered and drove in four runs to back the three-hit pitching by Alex Royalty as UNCW routed Penn State, 11-2, on Sunday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks improved to 8-1 and stayed perfect at Brooks Field with an 8-0 record. The Nittany Lions, meanwhile, dipped to 2-7 and have lost their last five straight.

Feight finished with two hits including a two-run single in UNCW's six-run second inning. He later connected on his fourth homer of the season, with a man on, in the fifth inning.

Gavin Stupienski finished with three hits as he extended his career-long hitting streak to 16 games with a fifth inning single. Adding two-hit games were Brian Mims and Zack Canada and both knocked in two runs.

Penn State starter Sal Biasi (1-2) took the loss after allowing six runs, all unearned, on three hits and four walks in two innings of work.

Alex Royalty (3-0) won his three straight start to open his collegiate career. He surrendered a homer to lead off the second and worked through a tough inning, allowing just that one run. From the last out of the second inning until there one out in the sixth, he retired 11 consecutive Nittany Lions. Royalty allowed one run on three hits, walked three and struck out five in a career-long seven innings.

Up next: The two teams close out the three-game series on Monday with a 4 p.m. first-pitch.

Home Runs: PSU Guers (2nd inning off Royalty, solo, none out); UNCW Feight (5th inning off Forsyth, one on, none out)

How it happened: Penn State opened the scoring in the second inning on a leadoff homer by Greg Guers, but UNCW plated six runs on three hits and a pair of PSU errors to take a commanding 6-1 lead it would never lose.

Inside the box score: UNCW landed its leadoff hitter on base in 7-of-8 innings while PSU did so four times … Royalty held Penn State hitless (0-10) with runners on base and 0-for-7 with two outs … UNCW was 5-for-16 with RISP while PSU was 0-for-6.

Notes: UNCW now leads the series, 3-1 … The Seahawks reached double digits in runs scored for the seventh time this season and have scored 97 runs in nine games … Brian Mims and Nick Feight each have a team-leading 14 RBI's this season, Mims had nine as a freshman while Feight had three … Steven Linkous stole a base in the first inning and is now 11-for-11 this season.
