JMU Edges Seahawks in Series Finale, 1-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior outfielder Taylor Newton drove in the game's lone run with a double in the top of the fourth inning as No. 9 James Madison swept its Colonial Athletic Association series over UNCW with a 1-0 victory against the Seahawks at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Dukes improved to 25-2 overall and 3-0 in the CAA with the victory while UNCW dropped to 19-12 overall with an 0-3 mark in league play.

Newton's double to center field accounted for the lone scoring in the game as the teams combined to record just two hits in a matchup of the CAA's two best pitching teams.
 Sophomore Megan Good earned the win in the circle for James Madison after giving up just one hit with six strikeouts.

Sophomore Sarah Davis suffered the loss for the Seahawks. She allowed just one run on one hit in five innings while posting seven strikeouts against one walk.   

Inside the Box Score: Junior Peyton Jordan tallied two innings of scoreless relief for the Seahawks, recording a strikeout with no walks … James Madison failed to have its leadoff hitter reach base in any inning … Junior Nella Chamblee accounted for the Seahawks' lone hit with a double in the second inning.

#SeahawkStats: The game featured a 20-minute rain delay with one out in the top of the fourth inning ... UNCW held an opponent to one run or less for the 11th time this season … The Seahawks are now 10-1 in those games … The Seahawks are also now 5-4 in one-run games this year … Jordan lowered her earned run average to 1.93 after not allowing a run for the fifth time in her last six appearances … The Seahawks did not attempt a stolen base for just the sixth time this year.
