Rachel Willis posted four hits and junior infielder
Lauren Moore added three hits as UNCW split a non-conference doubleheader against Campbell at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Seahawks, who improved to 20-13 on the season, outlasted Campbell in a 13-inning affair to earn a 4-3 victory in the opener before the Camels (15-17) claimed the split with a 4-0 triumph in the nightcap.
Willis collected all four of her hits in the opener after going 4-for-6 at the plate. Meanwhile, Moore turned in a 3-for-6 performance in the Seahawks' victory, including a two-run double in the second inning.
Junior
Peyton Jordan secured her 11th win of the season after throwing 8.2 scoreless innings of relief in the opener. She allowed eight hits while recording four strikeouts against just one walk.
Junior pitcher
Katie Baker, the reigning Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week, led the Camels with five hits and two runs scored. She suffered the loss in the first game after giving up four runs on 15 hits in 12.0 innings. Â Â Â
How It Happened – Game 1: After the Camels tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, freshman
Hannah Adamczyk gave UNCW a 4-3 edge in the top of the 13th inning with an RBI single to left center with one out. The Camels recorded two singles in the bottom of the frame before Jordan induced a ground ball to shortstop to close out the victory. Â Â Â Â
How It Happened – Game 2: Campbell used a three-run double by sophomore
Melissa Tullar to build a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Camels added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning and never looked back.
