Foster Goes The Distance As UNCW Rolls Past Iona, 11-1

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Ryan Foster tossed his second career complete game and Nick Feight's four hits fueled the UNCW lineup as the Seahawks whipped Iona, 11-1, in a non-conference game on Friday at Brooks Field.

The win snapped UNCW's four-game losing skid and improved its record to 10-6. The Gaels, meanwhile, had their three-game winning streak snapped with the road loss.

Foster needed just 101 pitches to go the distance and go to 4-0 on the season. He allowed one run on six hits and did not walk a batter while striking out five. Foster has allowed just one earned run over his last 25.1 innings.

Feight's four hits led a 16-hit UNCW attack that saw four hitters collect at least two hits. Brian Mims and Casey Golden each had two hits and Kennard McDowell connect on his first home run of the season. Also with two hits were Gavin Stupienski and Robbie Thorburn. Mims, who reached base in four of his five plate appearances, scored three runs.

Lou Matarazzo and Carmine Palummo each had two hits. Matarazzo belted his second home run of the season for the lone Iona run.

IC starter Jared Finkel (0-2) took the loss, allowing nine runs, seven earned, over four innings of work.

Home Runs: IC Matarazzo (off Foster in the fifth inning, one out, none on); UNCW Mims (off Finkel in the fourth inning, two out, none on); McDowell (off Kurz, fifth inning, one out, none on)
