O Canada! Seahawks Win Fifth Straight, 10-7

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Zack Canada had three hits, including a three-run homer, and Alex Royalty struck out six as UNCW topped Eastern Kentucky, 10-7, in the Hughes Bros. Challenge on Saturday at Brooks Field.

With the win, the Seahawks stayed perfect at 5-0 and have scored in double figures for the fifth straight game. The Colonels, meanwhile, dipped to 2-4.

Canada's four runs driven in were a career-high and his three-run homer in the fourth inning broke a 3-all deadlock. He added a RBI triple in the eighth inning to give UNCW a 10-6 lead. Brian Mims added two hits and scored twice.

Royalty (2-0) picked up his second win in as many starts, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings. He finished with six strikeouts and walked one.

For the Colonels, Ben Fisher homered twice while Kyle Nowlin had two hits, including a homer in the ninth.

Alex Hamilton (0-2) was tagged with the loss after being roughed up for eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and a walk over five innings.

Up next: UNCW closes out the Hughes Bros. Challenge when it hosts VCU at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Home Runs: EKU – Fisher (2nd inning, solo, none out, off Royalty; 4th inning, solo, none out, off Royalty), Nowlin (9th inning, solo, one out, off Gesell); UNCW - Canada (4th inning, none out, two on, off Hamilton)

How it happened: Trailing 2-0 in the third, Steven Linkous tied the game with a triple off the left field wall that scored two runs. Mims plated him one batter later with a RBI single to right for a 3-2 lead.

Inside the box score: UNCW scored four runners from third with less than two outs … Both teams combined for three hits with two outs, but combined to land nine lead of hitters on base … Righthanded hitters went 0-9 against Royalty … Neither team had a two-out RBI.

Notes: Gavin Stupienski extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a seventh inning double … UNCW has scored 68 runs in five games … The Seahawks have now won eight straight in the all-time series with EKU … UNCW is 3-0 versus lefthanded starters.
