Davis' Walk-Off Homer Gives Seahawks 3-1 Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore pitcher Sarah Davis blasted a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as UNCW outlasted Bucknell to earn its sixth straight win with a 3-1 victory over the Bison at Boseman Field on Friday evening.

The Seahawks, who played their 10th straight home game, improved to 8-2 on the season while Bucknell dropped to 2-4 with its fourth straight loss.

Davis, who also pitched a complete game effort for the Seahawks, gave UNCW the victory when she hit her third home run of the year in the ninth inning. She also scatted six hits and allowed just one run en route to her third victory of the season.
 Freshman second baseman Kali Jones added two hits, including a double, while junior Nella Chamblee went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Senior Amanda Fazio and sophomore Meghan Kovac each tallied two hits for Bucknell. Senior Dana Nielsen took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

How It Happened: Kovac gave Bucknell a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a single up the middle before junior Claudia Spinelli tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

#SeahawkStats: The Seahawks played their first extra-inning game of the season … The teams combined to hit 4-for-23 with runners on base and 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position … Jones has hit safely in five straight games … Spinelli and Davis reached base safely for the sixth game in a row … Freshman Hannah Adamczyk extended her hitting streak to a team-high six straight games with a single in the sixth inning.  

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW continues play at the Hampton Inn University Area Seahawk Softball Classic on Saturday with a pair of games. The Seahawks play N.C. Central at 10 a.m. before facing Bucknell at 12:30 p.m.
