WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by four hits from junior
Nella Chamblee, UNCW continued play at the Hampton Inn University Area Seahawk Softball Classic by splitting a pair of games against Bucknell and N.C. Central at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who improved to 9-3 on the season, earned a 4-2 victory over N.C. Central in their first game before dropping a 12-4 decision against Bucknell to snap a seven-game win streak.
While Chamblee led the Seahawks by going 4-for-6 at the plate, junior
Merritt Wilkinson added three hits with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Freshmen
Kali Jones and
Hannah Adamczyk each collected a pair of hits and scored a run in the doubleheader.

Peyton Jordan earned the victory in the circle against N.C. Central by allowing just three hits over four innings without giving up a run. She also recorded three strikeouts while upping her record to 3-1 on the season. Â
How It Happened vs. N.C. Central: The Seahawks scored four straight runs, including two in the fifth inning, to take a 4-0 lead they did not relinquish. N.C. Central trimmed the margin to 4-2 by scoring a run in the sixth and seventh innings. Â
How It Happened vs. Bucknell: The Bison jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening three innings before a four-run fourth inning, including a two-run single by Wilkinson, evened the score at 4-4. But, Bucknell answered with eight unanswered runs, including five in the fifth inning, to end its four-game losing streak.
