UNCW Topped By Northeastern In CAA Volleyball

BOSTON, Mass. – Nicole Lott's 13 kills weren't enough as UNCW fell in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-17) to conference-leader Northeastern in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Sunday at the Cabot Center.

The Huskies ran their record to 20-7 overall and 10-3 in the league, a full match ahead of second-place Hofstra. The Seahawks, who have dropped their last four, fell into seventh-place in the conference standings with a 4-8 record and stand at 14-10 overall.

"We were our own worst enemy today, giving Northeastern too many unforced errors," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We have four matches at home now and will have to dig deep to earn our way into the conference tournament."

Maddy Kline added nine kills with one hitting error in 29 swings.

NU's Hannah Fry matched Lott's 13 kills for match-high honors while Brigitte Burcescu added 10 kills in 22 attempts without an error. Gabrielle Eyl and Jamie Bredahl added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

How it happened: UNCW combined for 21 hitting errors and eight service errors on the afternoon.

Notes: The Seahawks dropped both matches to Northeastern this season … Delaware jumped ahead of UNCW in the standings with a 5-7 record after beating Elon on Sunday … With seven digs on Sunday, Nicole Lott moved to within 11 digs of 1,000 for her career.

Up next: The Seahawks open a three matches in four days stretch, beginning with William & Mary on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in Hanover Hall. UNCW follows with a match against James Madison on Nov. 5 and a Nov. 7 date with Elon.
