WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior forwards
Serenity Waters and
Brittany Cline each scored a goal in the second half as UNCW improved its chances of securing a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament with a 2-0 victory over William & Mary at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Friday evening.
The Seahawks, who ended a two-game losing streak with the victory, improved to 9-5-3 overall and moved into a tie for fifth place with College of Charleston at 3-3-2 in the CAA. William & Mary dropped to fourth place in the league standings with the loss and moved to 10-7-0 overall and 4-4-0 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute when Waters took advantage of a turnover by the Tribe, which created a one-on-one opportunity. She fired a shot to the far post to score her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
With 11:04 remaining, Cline added an insurance goal when she took a through pass from senior midfielder
Moa Jarl and notched her second goal of the season on a shot from 15 yards.

Carolyn Huddy, the Seahawks limited William & Mary to just six shots. Huddy posted her fifth shutout of the season after making one save in the win.
