Seahawks Play to 1-1 Draw at Charleston

MT. PLEASANT, South Carolina – Junior forward Stian Sandbekkhaug scored the game-tying goal in the 74th minute as UNCW earned a 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association draw against College of Charleston at Patriots Point on Wednesday evening.

The Seahawks, who played their second overtime game of the season, improved to 6-2-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the CAA. Meanwhile, the Cougars saw their record move to 3-5-2 overall and 1-1-2 in league play.

"This was a good point on the road tonight," Head Coach Aidan Heaney said. "College of Charleston has a very senior heavy team and is a tough team to play. Our players showed a good response to come from behind and secure a point."

Sandbekkhaug evened the score at 1-1 with 16:35 remaining in regulation when he took a through pass from redshirt junior forward Julio Moncada and tallied his team-high sixth goal of the year.

Charleston claimed a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute when senior midfielder Nicolas Jeausseran scored his second goal in as many games off a feed from senior forward Nico Rittmayer.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Cretens made a season-high six saves for UNCW, which held a slim 15-14 advantage in shots.

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Shields recorded six saves for the Cougars, who are unbeaten in their last two games following a four-game losing streak.
