Game 1 Box Score (PDF) | Game 2 Box Score (PDF)
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore infielder Lauren Moore (The Oakwood School/Farmville, N.C.) had two hits and scored two runs to lead UNCW to a sweep of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader over Towson in the Seahawks' penultimate home games of the season at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who improved to 17-21 overall and 4-10 in the CAA, held off the Tigers for a 4-3 victory in the first game before posting a 3-0 shutout triumph in the nightcap. The losses snapped the Tigers' 10-game win streak and dropped Towson's record to 24-18 overall and 5-9 in the CAA.
Moore posted both of her hits in the second game to lead the Seahawks while scoring a run in each contest. Sophomore infielder Nella Chamblee (Corinth Holders H.S./Wendell, N.C.) added a pair of hits in the first game to lead the Seahawks' attack.

Freshman Sarah Davis (Walter Williams H.S./Burlington, N.C.) and sophomore Peyton Jordan (Marvin Ridge H.S./Waxhaw, N.C.) combined to allow just 12 hits in the doubleheader along with three runs. Davis, who upped her record to 7-7, allowed three runs on eight hits in the first game with four strikeouts. Meanwhile, Jordan improved to 6-5 on the season after posting her third shutout of the season while scattering four hits with three strikeouts.

Freshmen Kendyl Scott (La Quinta H.S./La Quinta, Calif.) and Shelby Stracher (Shepherd Hill Regional H.S./Dudley, Mass.) each tallied two hits to lead the Tigers in the doubleheader.

How It Happened – Game 1: The Seahawks surged out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as sophomore Claudia Spinelli (Marvin Ridge H.S./Waxhaw, N.C.) blasted her team-high third home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field. After UNCW upped the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers tried to mount a comeback by scoring three runs with two outs in the seventh inning. But, Davis got the final out with the bases loaded to earn the win.

How It Happened – Game 2: UNCW scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Moore and a two-run single by Davis down the right field line. Towson threatened in the top of the seventh inning by loading the bases, but a force out at the plate ended the game and preserved the shutout.

Inside the Box Scores: The Seahawks were 10-for-14 in advancement opportunities in the first game win … UNCW and Towson combined to hit just 1-for-14 with two outs in the second game … Towson freshman pitcher Megan Dejter (Sherwood H.S./Silver Spring, Md.) recorded 14 outs in the second game via a ground ball … The Tigers left 12 runners on base in the doubleheader.

Notes: UNCW and Towson had to wait until 3:00 p.m. to get play started due to inclement weather ... The doubleheader sweep snapped a six-game losing streak for the Seahawks … Towson had won seven of its last eight games against the Seahawks prior to the doubleheader on Saturday … UNCW improved to 15-10 at home this year, surpassing their home win total from a year ago.

What's Ahead for UNCW: The Seahawks will play their final home game of the season on Sunday morning when they host Towson in the series finale. The first pitch of Sunday's game has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. due to weather concerns. UNCW will honor its three seniors before first pitch and Sunday's game will be the Seahawks' annual "Pink" game.
