WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior outfielder
Caryn Bailey (Elizabethtown Area H.S./Elizabethtown, Pa.) had five hits, including a home run, and scored four runs as Hofstra (10-7-1, 2-0-0) swept a doubleheader over UNCW (11-10, 0-2) in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.
Hofstra, which is unbeaten in its last four games, earned an 8-0 victory in a six-inning game in the opener before claiming a 3-0 triumph in the nightcap.
Bailey went 2-for-3 in the opener and scored three runs while blasting her second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning. She also added three hits in the second game with a run scored.
Junior outfielder
Chloe Fitzgerald (Huntingtown H.S./Prince Frederick, Md.) added four hits with two runs scored for the Pride, which collected 19 hits in the doubleheader against UNCW.
Seniors
Morgan Lashley (North Mecklenburg H.S./Davidson, N.C.) and
Taylor Pirone (The Ursuline School/New Rochelle, N.Y.) combined to limit the Seahawks to just seven hits in the doubleheader sweep. Lashley tallied seven strikeouts and scattered five hits while Pirone gave up just two hits with six strikeouts.
Sophomore infielder
Nella Chamblee (Corinth Holders H.S./Wendell, N.C.) paced UNCW with two hits in the doubleheader. Â Â
How It Happened – Game 1: Hofstra took advantage of six walks by senior pitcher
Casey Rowland (Colonie Central H.S./Albany, N.Y.) in the first inning to build a 4-0 lead. The Pride added two more runs in the fifth inning before Bailey hit her two-run home run in the sixth inning to give Hofstra an 8-0 advantage. Â Â Â Â

Claudia Spinelli (Marvin Ridge H.S./Waxhaw, N.C.) ended the perfect game bid with a single to right field to lead off the fifth inning. Â
